Back home

Back home now. The last days in Kenya were over in no time. We had two more very successful presentations, a closing dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant and tearful moments when saying goodbye to each other.
The members of CSC Kenya 2 have now gone their own separate ways. Some left for home, others went for a few relaxing days at the beach, the tougher ones went on a Walking Safari with Masai warriors and the most toughest person of all (John) is climbing Kilimanjaro now. In a few days, we will all be back with our loved ones and doing our normal day jobs. We leave our friends Muriuki, Alex, Maureen, Vivian, our clients, taxi drivers, the staff at Green Hills and all those nice and helpful Kenyans behind. I hope that we have contributed to some extent in building a better Kenya for them and that they will remember us.

With my laundry running and photos uploaded, I take some time to reflect on 5 amazing weeks.
Here are my top 10 best memories (in no particular order):

- Finally meeting my Kenya 2 team members at the poolside restaurant at Fairview
- Our private disco under the stars arranged by Papa Papetti
- Happy faces during Community Day
- The unbelievably beautiful starry sky in Samburu
- Eva chasing away the big baboon from my bag in the tent
- The reactions from Dr. Getao and her team after every presentation we gave
- The Bollywood move, African shoulder dance and hip shake
- The euphoria and relief with Subteam Chui after our final presentation, toasting with cocktails in the Crowne Plaza
- The Masai warriors singing and dancing at the bonfire at the Walking Safari
- Our nicknames (Papa, Mama, Banana, Dude, etc etc) and stupid jokes (Look into the eyes, Power and Passion, Chicago or New York, Eh etc etc)

My top 10 worst memories:
- Fresh goat milk from a calabash in the Masai manyatta
- Standing in heavy rains for 30 minutes protecting our freshly killed goat on the BBQ from getting wet
- Thika Road traffic jams
- Buffets
- Leaving behind the Mweiga orphans
- Waiting for food
- The hole
- Nairobi - Nyeri vv. in the dark
- The tears when saying goodbye to new friends, practically continuously over the last few days
- My clothes smelling of goat

This is the end of my blog. For the IBMers that have been following me and like to onboard on their own CSC adventure: Applications for the next round will open on 4th April.

Asante Sana and Kwaheri Kenya!
