Our daily rhythm has changed from arranged visits and presentations to having to decide ourselves how we get through the day. Our home and office is in the Green Hills Hotel in Nyeri. I had mixed expectations from the place. On the one hand, they like us to have a real local experience, but having browsed through the hotel website from home I had the idea that this is a four star resort much more comfortable than my regular hotel in Neuchatel.
Well, indeed! All of the facilities are there and the room is pretty good and very spacious. It is a joy to work here. We have a meeting room assigned to us permanently, but we rather work on the terrace or in the bar at night. Legislation reads much easier with a G&T. Breakfast and dinner are included, although we often do the 10-minute walk into town for lunch.
Our projects are going well. All team have structured their assignment and are starting to interview stakeholders. The Postal Corporation Team have spent all afternoon yesterday in town, interviewing random people in the streets. We are planning to go to Nairobi next week to interview our key stakeholders. Hope that the new Attorney General will be established by then. He/She is a key person for us, but the judiciary reform here in Kenya and the struggles between the President and the Prime Minister have resulted in what is referred to as the "Nominations Saga". All key positions have to be filled but the process by which the nominees were put forward by president Kibaki was challenged enormously. He now withdrew the names.
We will depart for our first weekend trip this afternoon, to Samburu National Park!! We will go camping (yes me, camping).
